Book Week brings books to life

Each year the Children's Book Council of Australia brings children and books together to celebrate the world of literature.

CCGS Library staff took the opportunity to celebrate Book Week with two visiting authors, library activities and competitions on the theme of Curious Creatures Wild Minds, all ending in a magnificent parade which saw students and teachers alike dress up as their favourite book characters.

The CUTE Penguin

Gabriel Evans, author and illustrator, led an energetic and interactive session for K to 2, showing them how to draw simple cartoon characters in happy, moody, sad poses. Then it was their turn to work together to design their very own Tiger in a Dress character. They timed just how fast Gabriel could draw his own cute penguin character and got a sneak peek of illustrations from a new book he's working on.

Turning a little idea into a big story

Years 3-6 connected with Nat Amoore, author of Secrets of a Schoolyard Millionaire and The Positive Power of Pranking,

Nat led students through how they can turn a little idea into a big exciting story. The kids were blown away by Nat's highly engaging and entertaining virtual visit.

Book Week Parade

The Junior School exploded with colour as students and teachers dressed up in their favourite book characters to mark the end of Book Week. From Where's Wally, to the Lorax and the Three Little Pigs, the school came alive as each year group took part in the Book Week parade. Thank you to our wonderful community for making the parade such a success and congratulations to our costume and competition winners.

Curious Creatures Competition

Mrs Natalie Phillips, Acting Head of Library said, "We challenged our K-6 students to use their own wild minds to create a curious creature. As usual, our creative CCGS students took on the task and the results were fantastic. It was a very tough competition to judge, so we called on our senior school Art teachers to take on this important job and they selected winners from each grade. All entries are part of our Book Week display...you can see curious creatures peering out from all sorts of spaces!"
